If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

– Henry David Thoreau

In November 1950, a baby by the name of Richard was born.  Richard grew to be a bright boy.  He loved to please his Mother and Father.  He developed life-long friendships with his childhood friends through their love of baseball.  He became a rebel of sorts in his teenage years and a proud hippie in his college years.

Richard joined his father’s family business upon college graduation, quickly soared to the tops of the sales leaders lists, and eventually assumed ownership of the business.  Richard enjoyed time with friends and at social functions.  Richard married and started his family.

As time went on, Richard poured more and more time and attention into his professional endeavors.  While his net worth steadily increased, his family life increasingly suffered.

Misguided, he channeled his financial rewards to his family, spoiling them with lavish gifts and extravagant trips, thinking that it would be enough to win their love and affection.

He did not understand that redirecting a portion of his time and attention to his family was all that they needed.  They would have traded all of his financial gain for a glimpse of a genuine relationship.

To many, Richard was a success.  To Richard, his life felt empty.  To his family, Richard was absent.

In 1998, at the age of 48, Richard was diagnosed with ALS, and, 2 years later, he passed away.

Richard was the father of Jennefer Walsh, President of Walsh Financial Solutions.

This tragedy affected Jennefer deeply.  She saw how many of her father’s life experiences went unlived, how his family relationships went undeveloped, and how many regrets went unresolved.

Richard devoted his life to his professional work in order to provide for his family.  Ironically, it was not money or material items that crafted his legacy.  It was the limited time that he spent with his family that made the biggest impact.

At Walsh Financial Solutions, we view money as a tool that can enhance your life experience, and, at the same time, not take from it.

Walsh Financial Solutions’ mission is dedicated to Richard and the process of empowering individuals to live a life full of meaningful experiences.
